Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev ironically commented on a video showing German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer riding together on a train. He stated this on May 21 during a speech at the plenary session of the XIII St. Petersburg International Legal Forum.

Speaking at the forum, Medvedev stressed that one deal or the "notorious napkin agreement", as discussed between Soviet Leader Joseph Stalin and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill at the end of World War II, is not enough to build a sustainable world.

"I'm not talking about other napkins, like Macron's napkins on the train," he said.

Medvedev also said that Russia is ready for negotiations with Ukraine and urged Kiev not to miss the last opportunity to preserve statehood.

On May 20, Medvedev said that the appearance of troops of the "coalition of the willing" in the Ukrainian conflict zone would be considered a relapse of the military threat. According to him, Europe expects to rearm Kiev and prepare it for a larger conflict.
