Romanian President rejects sending troops to Ukraine

Sending Romanian military personnel as part of the peacekeeping forces to Ukraine is inappropriate. This was announced on May 21 by the country's President Nikushor Dan in an interview with Politico.
"To have a lot of operational support on Romanian territory, yes. There is no need to be part of the armies that guarantee peace in Ukraine. I think it would not be very appropriate because of the tension that already exists between Romania and Russia," the head of state said.
Despite this, Dan noted that he would support the efforts of the European Union (EU), which, according to him, seeks to strengthen the security of the continent. At the same time, he stressed that he wants to maintain partnership with the United States.
Earlier, on May 18, the Central Election Commission of the country announced the victory of the mayor of Bucharest and the candidate of the ruling Romanian party, Dan, in the second round of the presidential election. It was reported that, according to calculations, the current president had more than 54% of the vote. On the same day, he addressed the voters and declared that his victory belongs to his fellow citizens.
