- Medvedev pointed out the importance of guarantees in resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

No one can be trusted to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, so guarantees are needed in this case. Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, told reporters on May 20.
Answering a question about the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, he recalled the character of the Soviet movie "17 moments of Spring" by Heinrich Muller, who says the following phrase: "You can't trust anyone. I'm allowed to."
"The first part of this phrase is absolutely appropriate in this situation. No one can be trusted in this case. Despite the fact that good relations and dialogue are absolutely necessary," Medvedev stressed.
He also praised the fact that a dialogue has been established with the American side, however, Medvedev added, it is necessary to "trust those guarantees and those international documents that must be prepared."
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on May 20 that Moscow and Kiev would have difficult contacts to work out a single text of a memorandum on a peace treaty and a cease-fire. According to him, the draft documents will be formulated by both sides, after which they will be exchanged and "difficult contacts will begin to develop a single text."
