The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip has been declared catastrophic

The situation in the Gaza Strip is catastrophic, and the population of the enclave has not received humanitarian aid since March 2. This was announced on May 20 by the press service of the authorities.
"Since March 2, 2025, the Israeli occupation authorities have not allowed a single truck with humanitarian aid and fuel to enter the Gaza Strip. At the same time, at least 44,000 such trucks were needed to meet the minimum basic needs of [local] residents for this period," the department's Telegram channel says, as cited by TASS.
The authorities of the Gaza Strip assessed the situation as "catastrophic in every sense of the word." It is specified that over the past 80 days, more than 320 people have died in the enclave due to hunger and lack of medical care.
The Gaza authorities also appealed to the International Criminal Court (ICC) with a request to hold the Israeli leadership accountable for crimes against civilians.
On May 16, the Red Cross reported that hospitals run by the Red Crescent in Gaza were overcrowded and in dire need of resources. The organization stressed that the humanitarian situation in the sector remains extremely difficult.
Prior to that, on May 13, The New York Times newspaper stated that some Israeli military recognized that the Palestinians were facing mass starvation as a result of the blockade of the Gaza Strip and the suspension of humanitarian aid. Israeli officers responsible for analyzing the humanitarian situation in Gaza have warned their commanders that there is a shortage of food to meet even the most basic nutritional needs.
