The Interior Ministry warned Russians about changing the tactics of phone scammers

Scammers have started using a new tactic, which is to force victims to call them on their own. This was reported on May 20 in the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies.
"Today, scammers most often do not call first, they force the victim to call on their own. This significantly reduces vigilance: the person is sure that he has made contact himself and therefore everything is safe. But this is a trap," the department's Telegram channel says.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that false messages about account hacking in SMS or messenger are used for these purposes. After that, the potential victim contacts the scammers, who pose as support service operators or other specialists.
"All this is part of a complex multi—stage scheme aimed at full control over the victim's accounts and money," the department stressed.
On May 16, it became known that fraudsters had complicated the standard scheme of deceiving Russians and introduced a new stage there. At first, they call on behalf of couriers, imitating inexperienced scammers. Then, pretending that they forgot to turn off the microphone, they discuss the "divorce plan." After that, they contact the victim on behalf of Roskomnadzor and coax out the real code to log in to the online bank.
