Dutch Foreign Minister Kaspar Veldkamp said that the European Union (EU) will investigate Israel for compliance with the terms of the association agreement with Brussels. This was announced on May 20 by the NU portal.

It is noted that the Dutch Foreign Minister called on the EU leadership to investigate whether the Israeli side is violating the agreement, and 17 member states of the association supported the initiative, nine opposed it.

"The EU is really very concerned about the humanitarian situation in Gaza. In addition, the EU's message to Israel is that it must immediately cease hostilities and completely lift the humanitarian blockade," Veldkamp said.

He clarified that Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip contradict the clause of the agreement on the need to respect human rights and democratic principles. The Netherlands will not support the extension of the EU-Israel cooperation plan until the investigation is completed, the country's foreign minister stressed.

Earlier in the day, Bloomberg reported that the British government had suspended negotiations with the Israeli side on concluding a free trade agreement in connection with the new operation of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the Gaza Strip.

In April, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, declared that Israel had overstepped all bounds with its actions in the Gaza Strip. The EU is committed to providing maximum assistance to the Palestinians, she added. According to Kallas, Israel's security cannot be ensured without respecting the rights of the Palestinian people.
