The head of Gagauzia, Yevgenia Gutsul, after a court hearing on Tuesday, May 20, declared her readiness to continue fighting for the rights of autonomy. The corresponding message was sent by her lawyers for publication in the Telegram channel.

"I'm not broken. I am not fighting for myself, I am fighting for the right of every citizen of Gagauzia to live in a prosperous and respected autonomy. For us not to be deprived of our voice, so that our Gagauzia would not be turned into a political bargaining chip," Hutsul said.

She stressed that evidence and grounds were not presented at the last meeting. According to her, the purpose of the trial is "to eliminate an inconvenient Bashkan (senior official in Gagauzia — Ed.)".

Gutsul noted that with each meeting, the Moldovan authorities prove their fear of the truth, the will of the people and the power of the Gagauz Autonomy.

On March 25, Hutsul was detained at the Chisinau airport. Her name was found on the list of persons who are prohibited from leaving the country. Later, the head of Gagauzia was arrested for 20 days, and on April 9, the court replaced her measure of restraint with house arrest.

Then, on May 12, the court extended Hutsul's house arrest for another 30 days. Her lawyer, Sergei Moraru, called such a decision unjustified. According to the lawyer, Hutsul may remain under house arrest until March 2026. Her defense, in turn, challenged the extension of house arrest.
