The doctor spoke about the scale of the obesity problem in Russia

Russia has entered the sad eight world leaders in the prevalence of obesity. It turned out that two thirds of the adult population of the country are overweight, and one in four is clinically obese. This was announced to Izvestia on May 21 by Elena Fedorova, an endocrinologist at JSC Medicine (Academician Roitberg Clinic).
According to the expert, the problem has acquired the scale of a national crisis. Experts' forecasts are disappointing: by 2050, 73% of Russians may face weight problems, which will create an unprecedented burden on the healthcare system.
The rejuvenation of the problem is of particular concern to doctors. According to statistics, among children aged 7-11, one in three is already overweight.
Fedorova notes a paradoxical pattern: the growth of wealth in developed countries is often accompanied by an increase in the number of obese people. In high-income countries, less affluent segments of the population are more likely to suffer from excess weight.
"In Russia, the problem is aggravated by the traditional love of fatty and carbohydrate foods, as well as insufficient physical activity of the urban population," the expert believes.
Earlier, on January 29, Natia Chekhoeva, a gastroenterologist and endoscopist at the Gastro Clinic, told Izvestia that the systematic consumption of excess calories inevitably overloads the body. This not only increases body weight, but also puts a strain on internal organs, including the heart, liver, and pancreas.
