Medvedev called the ICC's activities a complete fiasco

The activities of the International Criminal Court (ICC) show how international justice mechanisms cannot be built and are a complete fiasco. This was announced on May 20 by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council (SB).
"Against the background of the serious criticism that is increasingly being voiced against the ICC, I would like to note its one undoubted merit. Merit from the opposite. The example of the Hague Court highlights in great detail, concretely, and scrupulously how the mechanisms of international justice should never be built. This is just a complete fiasco," he stressed during a speech at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum.
Medvedev stressed that the ICC has become an instrument of neocolonial aggression and is ineffective in the long term, so we need to think about a future replacement for this organization.
According to him, the statements that the International Criminal Court acts on behalf of the entire international community are false.
"America is also slapping the shaking cheeks of the Hague crooks with its sanctions. And this criminal court has earned steady hostility among its own members," he added.
On April 24, Medvedev declared the complete insolvency of the ICC. According to him, the body has lost its status as an instrument of justice and has become a means of legal struggle. He stressed that the court's decisions are ignored even by the countries that support it.
Prior to that, on April 3, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced the country's decision to withdraw from the ICC, saying that the organization had lost its independence and turned into a political institution. According to him, this was especially evident in the court's decisions on Israel.
