Heat poses serious risks to the human body. Overheating leads to a malfunction of the protein, which in some cases can lead to a threat to life. Andrey Kondrakhin, PhD, cardiologist, senior lecturer at the Department of Pharmacology at the Institute of Pharmacy and Medicinal Chemistry of the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, told Izvestia on May 20 how to help the body cope with abnormal heat.

On May 20, Alexander Vasilyevich Shuvalov, head of the Meteo forecasting center, forecaster, meteorologist, and climatologist, told Izvestia about the dramatic warming in Moscow at the end of May. According to him, the peak temperature values will be on May 30-31 and will reach +30...+31 degrees.

Meanwhile, Kondrakhin explained: a sharp jump in temperature from cold to heat is generally not dangerous for humans. However, such sultry weather is harmful to people on its own.

According to the expert, the human body, being warm-blooded, is constantly faced with the need to dissipate excess heat. When the ambient temperature approaches 36.6 degrees, which is the normal body temperature, this process becomes much more complicated.

"Overheating leads to protein dysfunction, which is similar to the process of egg white folding when heated. In extreme cases, this can pose a direct threat to life," warns Kondrakhin.

To prevent overheating, the doctor recommends first of all to limit physical activity and avoid direct sunlight. Any movement in the heat leads to additional heat production by the muscles, which worsens the condition.

The cardiologist pays special attention to the drinking regime. Water should be consumed in small sips every five minutes, evenly replenishing fluid losses. He warned: large amounts of water at a time create excessive stress on the heart.

To create comfortable indoor conditions, Kondrakhin advises using humidifiers, spray guns and keeping the windows closed. At the same time, he warns against excessive use of air conditioners.:

"Cold air should not get directly on a person to avoid the risk of pneumonia," the cardiologist emphasized.

According to the doctor, children, the elderly and patients with chronic diseases become especially vulnerable in hot weather. Additional cooling measures are recommended for them: wet compresses on the neck, wiping the face with cold water, but without fanaticism to prevent hypothermia.

Kondrakhin advised practicing a kind of "lazy" behavior strategy during the heat wave — minimize activity, rest in a cool place and avoid unnecessary stress.

Earlier, on May 20, Yandex Weather specialists told Izvestia that an abnormally hot summer is expected in Russia. It turned out that the average temperature will exceed the climatic norm by two to three degrees, and new temperature records are expected to be set in some regions.
