Glossy, odorless strawberries are likely to have been chemically treated, so they should arouse the buyer's caution. Elena Solomatina, a nutritionist, told Izvestia about this on May 20.

"Any unnatural state of the berry, of course, should be alarming. And here our nose helps us: after all, we have to smell it (strawberries - Ed.), because if the berry ripened naturally, then it still retains a certain smell," Solomatina said.

According to her, the glossy appearance of the berry may indicate that it was processed to be brought in marketable form from far away, for example, from abroad. The expert added that Russia has certain sanitary standards and requirements for such goods, but food products from abroad are more difficult to control before they are brought into the country.

Solomatina recommended at least thoroughly rinsing the suspicious strawberries.

"We understand that we can't rub with a brush, it's delicate, but it's still good to rinse, especially before giving it to children. And buying berries in season is probably the most powerful protection, because there is no point in processing them in season," the expert noted.

She advised buying strawberries from trusted, preferably domestic sellers, in chain stores, and also paying attention to their appearance.

According to Solomatina, the tails of the berry should not be dry and sluggish, and the high—quality fruit should be free of dark spots and green patches.

Earlier in the day, Violetta Maigurova, cosmetologist at SM-Cosmetology, told about the foods and beverages of proper nutrition that slow down aging. The specialist clarified that the antioxidants contained in berries can improve skin condition and overall well-being, thereby slowing down the aging process.
