Russia should, as a matter of priority, accelerate the construction of a fully domestic orbital station to carry out scientific, research tasks and technology development without the constant presence of humans. This was announced on May 20 by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

"But at the same time, it is important to accelerate the construction of a fully domestic orbital station, and it will be a universal platform for testing new technologies, as well as for performing unique scientific and research tasks. We expect that operation will be possible without the constant presence of humans," he said during a strategic session on the development of the space industry in the Russian Federation.

According to the Prime Minister, the revised national draft will include programs for fundamental research of space objects and the continuation of more meaningful practical manned flights.

Mishustin added that such breakthrough areas will help give "an impetus to the development of scientific thought" and will become the basis for Russia's industrial growth for decades to come.

Dmitry Bakanov, CEO of Roscosmos, said on April 8 that representatives of the corporation and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration of the United States (NASA) discussed plans for the development of orbital space after the completion of the International Space Station (ISS) project and plans for the development of the lunar program.
