Veterinarians from the Moscow region are preparing a calf injured in an accident in Istra for surgery. The animal was named Ilyusha.

According to the online publication Podmoskovye Segodnya, with reference to the regional Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the accident occurred on May 18 in the Knyazhye Ozero area. The calf got under the wheels of a car, running out onto the roadway. A day later, he found himself in a clinic that specializes in the treatment of horses.

The veterinarians said that upon admission, Ilyusha's condition was assessed as severe. He was exhausted. The cub was given an IV drip. On the morning of May 20, the animal's condition was assessed as stable and satisfactory.

A temporary cast was placed on Ilyusha's hind limbs. The operation is scheduled for the afternoon. It is necessary in order to restore the integrity of the bones. After that, the calf will be transported to the Moose Island Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. The situation is controlled by the Moscow region State Veterinary Service.

The Prosecutor's office is conducting an inspection in connection with the failure to provide timely assistance to the injured moose cub.

Earlier it became known that one person was killed and one injured as a result of a car collision with a moose on the inner side of the ring road in St. Petersburg. The moose also died.
