In a conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump expressed regret that the two countries are much further apart compared to the years of the Second World War (WWII). This was announced on May 20 by Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.

"The leaders spoke a lot and with warmth about the fact that our countries were allies during World War II, fought together against Nazi Germany and militaristic Japan. Trump remembers this fighting brotherhood and said with regret that, due to strange circumstances, our countries today are not only not together, but also very far from each other," he told reporters.

According to the assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, the head of the United States is shocked by the price paid by the Russian Federation for achieving Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Ushakov also said that during the conversation, Putin stressed the importance of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The Russian president said that a three-day truce had been declared during the holidays, but despite this, on the night of May 6-7, Ukraine sent 524 drones and American Storm Shadow missiles to Russia, most of which were heading towards Moscow. At the same time, threats of terrorist attacks in the Kremlin and Red Square were prevented.

"Putin, of course, did not accidentally mention this to Trump, since Ukrainians directly threatened foreign participants of the festive events, tried — and our president publicly said this — to intimidate foreign leaders and prevent them from coming to Moscow," Ushakov said.

At the same time, Moscow and Washington are discussing a meeting between the two presidents on how the dialogue on conflict resolution will develop.

Earlier, on May 19, Putin said that he had a meaningful and useful telephone conversation with Trump. It lasted over two hours. The Russian President said that during the talks he expressed gratitude to the American leader for the US participation in the resumption of direct Russian-Ukrainian negotiations.
