The expert explained the popularity of polyworking in Russia

A new trend is gaining popularity in the labor market — polyworking: when a person simultaneously conducts several projects and works for a number of companies in different roles. And not only "to survive", but also consciously — to earn more, learn new things and feel more confident. Vladimir Koritsky, CEO of the service for secure transactions with freelancers at Solar Staff, told Izvestia on May 21 what the future holds for this format and how Russian business treats it.
The expert noted that the trend is changing the usual perception of employment, and it will only strengthen in the coming years.
According to him, the term appeared relatively recently, when the very idea of combining different professions became especially relevant. The main reasons are the unstable economy, rapid changes in the market and the development of technologies that allow you to work remotely with any employer. This is a new career model where the focus is not on one stable job, but on several areas at once.
Koritsky clarified that polyworking is most common among generation Z, young professionals who are just starting to build their careers. They do not want to focus on one profession and willingly try themselves in different roles. But millennials have also picked up on this wave: many combine office work with consulting, creative projects or business.
This allows people to increase their income by combining several sources at once, constantly develop skills in different fields, be creative, avoid routine and reduce the risk of burnout. It also gives a sense of stability — if one project ends, there are always others, Koritsky added.
"Polyworking is closely linked to the growth of freelancing and the development of the gig economy. With the help of modern platforms, you can easily find projects, work with different customers and not depend on the same employer. This is convenient for both specialists and companies," he explained.
At the same time, the expert said that many companies still treat such specialists with suspicion — they mistakenly believe that employees are deceiving their employer when they are engaged in polyworking. Koritsky emphasized that with the right approach, polyworking opens up new business opportunities: it gets access to specialists with a wide range of skills and fresh eyes who are accustomed to working at a fast pace and easily adapt to different tasks. For companies that are not ready for long-term hiring, this gives them a chance to quickly connect a professional to a specific project. This format is especially beneficial in conditions where flexible teams and turnkey solutions are needed without long-term obligations.
The expert noted that it is important for employers to take into account that employees may have other projects, and to interact so that the interests of both sides coincide. Therefore, before starting work, it is necessary to agree on all the conditions — deadlines, quality criteria, the stage of work, in some cases the transfer of intellectual property rights.
Earlier, on April 22, it was reported that among the Russians surveyed, almost half (49%) gave priority to Moscow in workaholism. The capital is associated with a dynamic rhythm of life and high competition. St. Petersburg ranks second (25%), Novosibirsk is third (14%). This is stated in the results of a study of the services "Work.<url>" and "Part-time job".
