A court in Moscow fined Telegram 2.8 million rubles.

The judge fined the Telegram messenger 2.8 million rubles for failing to fulfill its duties as the organizer of the instant messaging service. The press service of the courts of general jurisdiction informed about this on May 20.

"By the decision of the justice of the peace of the judicial district No. 422 of the Tagansky district of Moscow <...> Telegram Messenger Inc. was found guilty of committing an administrative offense under Part 1 of Article 13.39 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation," the department's Telegram channel says.

According to this article, the messenger was fined 800 thousand rubles. In addition, in accordance with Part 8 of Article 13.11 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the legislation of the Russian Federation in the field of personal data") Telegram was punished with another fine, which amounts to 2 million rubles.

Telegram was fined 4 million rubles on April 21. The messenger was found guilty of committing an administrative offense under Part 2 of Article 13.41 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the procedure for restricting access to information resources, access to which is subject to restriction in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation on information, information technology and information protection, and (or) the procedure for deleting specified information").
