In Europe, Kiev announced that it was doing its "homework" to join the EU

Ukraine has completed its "homework" and is ready to launch negotiations on joining the European Union (EU). This was announced on May 20 by the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos.
She noted that Ukraine's integration into the EU will become an important aspect of ensuring security as soon as peace negotiations begin. Kos stressed that this concerns not only the security of the Ukrainian side, but also the whole of Europe as a whole.
"Ukraine has done its homework, so it is ready to open the first fundamental cluster of negotiations," Kos said before the start of the meeting of the foreign ministers and defense ministers of the EU countries in Brussels, RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.
According to the European Commissioner, at the moment the EU Council has all the necessary resources to make a decision.
On May 12, the former head of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) in Donetsk, Matt Whatley, said that the accelerated admission of Ukraine to the EU could become a problem that would affect the budgetary structure of the community and jeopardize its unity. In his opinion, Ukraine does not meet the criteria of the European Union itself.
