The Doha negotiations on the settlement of the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement did not lead to a rapprochement between the parties on key issues due to a fundamental gap in a number of positions. This was announced on May 20 by the Prime Minister of Qatar and the head of the country's Foreign Ministry, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani. His words are quoted by Al Arabia TV channel.

"The rounds of negotiations that took place in Doha in the last few weeks, unfortunately, have not yet led to anything, because there is a fundamental gap between the two sides," Al Thani said at the Qatar Economic Forum.

According to the politician, the Israeli military offensive "undermined" the chances of peaceful efforts to resolve the conflict and conclude a comprehensive agreement.

Earlier, on May 13, it became known that the Palestinian Hamas movement retains hope of reaching a partial agreement with Israel, which can become the basis for the next stage — a complete cease-fire and the beginning of negotiations on a long-term truce.
