Shipments of passenger cars from South Korea to Russia in April reached their highest level since March 2023, RIA Novosti reported on May 20, citing data from the Korean statistical Service.

In the middle of spring, South Korean cars worth $90 million were imported to Russia. This is twice as much as a year earlier, and a quarter higher than last month. The bulk of the shipments came from vehicles with gasoline engines ranging from 1.5 to 3 liters ($65 million). There is also a high level of supply of diesel passenger cars with engines from 1.5 to 2.5 liters ($18.7 million) and gasoline cars for 1-1.5 liters ($5.2 million).

Russia took 11th place in South Korean exports of passenger cars, rising by one position in a month. The main importers were the United States ($2.9 billion), Canada ($465.2 million), Australia ($263.9 million), Kyrgyzstan ($252.4 million) and Germany ($202 million).

On March 12, car sales of the South Korean KGM brand, formerly known as SsangYong, began in Russia. Rex Motors plans to start assembling KGM machines at the Avtotor plant in the Kaliningrad region. The start of car production is scheduled for autumn 2025. SsangYong cars have been sold in Russia since the mid-1990s, and the brand officially left the market in 2018. The company's return to Russia was announced in early November 2024.
