Investigators have opened a criminal case into the death and injury of local residents in the village of Shchegolek, Kursk region, as a result of shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported on May 20 in the Teleram channel of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
It is specified that on May 5, 2025, the Armed Forces of Ukraine used unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to drop an explosive device on a civilian car in Shchegolek.
According to the press service of the Investigative Committee, the driver was transporting accounting staff from the village of Kozyrevka to the city of Oboyan, Kursk region. As a result of the drone attack, two civilians were killed and three were injured. The driver suffered bruises to his spine, hip bone, and lung, as well as fractured ribs.
"The actions of the Ukrainian military are qualified as a terrorist act (paragraph "b" of Part 3 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation)," the publication says.
The investigation plans to bring to justice the servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine involved in the attack.
Earlier, on May 16, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case into a strike by Ukrainian militants on residents of the Tyazhino settlement in the Kursk region. It was reported that two people were injured in the attack, and a car was also damaged. Law enforcement officers regarded the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers as a terrorist act (paragraphs "a" and paragraph "b" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act").
