The final stage of work on restoring tram traffic along Trifonovskaya Street has started in Moscow. Construction of a reversal tram ring has begun on Rizhskaya Square, the Department of Transport said.

The project provides for the laying of more than 400 meters of tram tracks on Gilyarovsky Street (from the intersection with Trifonovskaya Street to Rizhskaya Square) and the construction of a U-turn ring for trams at the entrance to the Rizhskaya metro station on the Bolshaya Koltsevaya Line. Currently, the restoration of the tram line on Trifonovskaya Street has been completed by 80%.

"We are implementing one of the most important projects for the development of tram traffic. The restoration of the line on Trifonovskaya Street will improve transport accessibility for 70,000 people who live and work in the area. We are expanding the tram network in accordance with the instructions of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin," said Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor for Transport and Industry.

Specialists started restoring the tram line along Trifonovskaya Street last year. This site was closed 30 years ago.

The length of tram tracks in Moscow is about 430 km (including depots), of which 82% are separated from highways or are located on a separate track. Moscow's tram network covers 86 districts, with over 5.5 million people living near tram stops. There are 35 routes in the city, passengers make more than 750 thousand trips daily.

Last September, a new line was opened on Sergiy Radonezhsky Street, and in April of this year, after extensive reconstruction, the renovated P.L. Apakov depot on Shabolovka was operational.

Plans for the coming years include the expansion of the network, including the construction of a new line on Akademika Sakharova Avenue (from Komsomolskaya Square to Chistoprudny Boulevard).
