- The media reported on the EU's reduction in the number of foreign delegations due to lack of money

The Diplomatic Service of the European Union (EU) plans to reduce the number of about 10 foreign delegations due to budget cuts. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on May 20, citing documents and sources.
"The EU diplomatic department is ready to reduce about 10 foreign delegations and about 100 local staff amid budget cuts and larger—scale reshuffles," the publication says.
It is specified that such measures will affect diplomatic missions in countries where, according to the EU, there is no need for a large number of staff due to changes in strategic priorities. For example, Belarus and Lesotho will be affected. The reduction will be carried out in two stages — in 2026 and 2027.
On May 9, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the EU had transformed from a political into a totalitarian military-political bloc with "revanchist sentiments." In his opinion, Brussels is gradually turning some territories of Poland and the Baltic states into "source areas" for attacks from the eastern side of the North Atlantic bloc.
