Alexander Kuryaev, a paramedic from the Sakhalin Region, became the winner of the New Year's edition of the Russian Lotto, which took place on January 1, 2025, live on NTV.

Alexander said that he had purchased lottery tickets at the end of November 2024.

"I decided to buy tickets for the New Year's Russian Lotto raffle when I was at my mom's. She proposed a scheme for selecting tickets based on the presence of specific numbers in them: add two to the number two — it will be four, add two to it again — it will be the next number six. So together we formed the numbers we were looking for in the tickets. And I bought eight of these tickets," he shared.

According to Alexander, he found out about his victory on January 1, when he was going to work. After checking the ticket, he realized that he had won 1 billion rubles. Alexander became the fourth billionaire in the history of the Russian lottery.

Reflecting on how he intends to use his winnings, the man shared that he and his wife want to purchase real estate and build a country house by the sea for the whole family. In addition, the winner plans to buy a boat and go on a trip with his wife.

It is noted that in accordance with the rules, winnings are paid within 180 days, and the tax on amounts over 15 thousand rubles is paid by the Stoloto organization. In this case, the tax will amount to 218,402,044 rubles.

On January 5, the first winners of the New Year's Billion, participants from Moscow and the Moscow region, who won 1 million rubles each, applied to the Stoloto lottery center. In total, about 3.7 billion rubles were played in the draw. The main prize of 1 billion rubles was won by one participant, another 90 people received 1 million rubles each.
