The governor of the Arkhangelsk Region, Alexander Tsybulsky, signed a decree appointing the former head of Roscosmos, Yuri Borisov, as a senator of the Federation Council from the region. The relevant document was published on May 20 on the official portal of legal information.
"I decree <...> to empower Borisov Yuri Ivanovich with the powers of a senator of the Russian Federation — a representative of the government of the Arkhangelsk region for the duration of my term of office," the document says.
Earlier, on February 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed the former head of Roscosmos, Yuri Borisov, as his special representative for international cooperation in the field of space. Borisov left the position of CEO of Roscosmos on February 6. Dmitry Bakanov, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Transport, was appointed in his place.
Bakanov named his top priorities on March 31. Among them, he noted the completion of the national space project and the involvement of private investors.
