The scammers began sending fake emails to Russians with a suggestion to check the schedule for turning off hot water. This was announced on May 20 by Sergey Kolunov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Construction and Housing and Communal Services (United Russia).

As Kolunov told TASS, the purpose of such messages is the theft of personal and bank data. The links in such emails lead to phishing sites that steal data.

"This is an extremely dangerous thing, especially during the water shutdown season — from May to August," the deputy added.

According to him, complaints about such schemes are received regularly. Using stolen information, attackers can apply for loans in the victim's name.

Kolunov urged citizens to be careful and check water shut—off schedules only through official sources - the management company's website, the administration's social media pages, Gosuslugi or information stands in the entrances.

Earlier, on May 15, the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia told about a new scheme of fraud with letters from Google. The victim of such a scheme receives messages from a legitimate sender due to the opportunity provided by Google to create websites. However, emails from intruders lead the user to a phishing resource.
