- A series of scams involving purchases on marketplaces was uncovered in the Kirov region

In the Kirov region, police uncovered a series of frauds committed under the pretext of helping to purchase goods on marketplaces. This was announced on May 20 by the press service of the Russian Interior Ministry.
According to the police, a resident of Sovetsk got to know people on social networks and offered to buy discounted goods, citing alleged links with online store owners. After receiving the money, she disappeared and spent it on personal needs and sports betting.
"So, one of the victims was a resident of the Kirov region, born in 1992, who trusted the suspect and from January to February of this year transferred a total of just over 1.4 million rubles to her, asking her to purchase construction materials," the Telegram channel clarified.
The suspect deceived at least eight people from the region who wanted to buy discounted gadgets and household appliances. Eight criminal cases have been initiated under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud).
"She was given a preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave and proper behavior. The involvement of the suspect in the commission of other similar frauds is being established," the department concluded.
On May 12, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that fraudsters disguised as buyers could steal bank card data by offering the seller their own payment option through a supposedly secure payment on a secure website. It was clarified that the attackers are contacting the seller in order to purchase the product. Then, when it comes to payment, they say they deposited the money into a supposedly secure account, after which they send the victim a link that leads to a phishing site.
