The talks between the leaders of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and the United States, Donald Trump, have shown that there are two consultation and negotiation groups in resolving the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on May 20 by Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council, in the Telegram channel.

According to Kosachev, the first group, the Russian—American group, is discussing the possibility of achieving peace, while the second, the Ukrainian-European group, is discussing the continuation of the conflict.

"Trump was the first to realize that Russia is the same subject of international relations as everyone else, and that a conversation with it can only be on equal terms. I hope he also understands that Ukraine has been turned into an object, a project and a tool, thereby destroying peace in Europe with the risk of conflict escalating into a global one," the senator said.

In addition, as the senator noted, Russia and the United States want to achieve peace, not the continuation of the Ukrainian conflict.

Earlier, on May 19, Putin and Trump had a telephone conversation that lasted more than two hours. During the conversation, the heads of state also discussed the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. The Russian president expressed gratitude to Trump for the US participation in the resumption of direct talks between Moscow and Kiev.
