Firefighters in the Trans-Baikal Territory eliminated a forest fire on an area of 2.6 thousand hectares in a day. This was reported on May 20 in the Telegram channel of the regional Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

"For the current day<...> a fire was extinguished in the Shilkinsky district. The area covered by the fire was more than 2.6 [thousand hectares]," the report says.

According to the department, at 11:00 local time (05:00 Moscow time), seven fires were localized in a wooded area in Karymsky, Tungokochensky, Chernyshevsky and Chita districts. The total area of fires was over 110 thousand hectares.

It is specified that 26 fires that have engulfed Karymsky, Tungokochensky, Uletovsky, Khiloksky, Chernyshevsky and Chita districts have not yet been eliminated in Transbaikalia. More than 1.8 thousand people of the forest fire brigade, more than 1 thousand paratroopers and paratroopers were involved in eliminating the fire. Federal and interregional forces are also helping to eliminate the fire.

Earlier, on May 19, it was reported that 93 perpetrators of wildfires, of which 39 are minors, have been identified in Transbaikalia since the beginning of the fire season. During this time, 6 thousand patrols of the forest were also conducted.
