The leaders of the European Union (EU) were shocked by the statements of the American leader Donald Trump after his telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was reported on May 19 by the Financial Times newspaper, citing sources.

"One of the people familiar with the negotiations said that the leaders were stunned by the way the US president described the agreements reached," the newspaper said.

It is clarified that one of Trump's statements, which surprised representatives of European states, was his statement about the possible abandonment of the role of mediator between the Russian Federation and Ukraine in resolving the conflict.
