American leader Donald Trump called Russian President Vladimir Putin a "pleasant gentleman" on May 19 after a telephone conversation on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.

"A little conversation with a nice gentleman named Putin. We actually had a good conversation, we made progress," he said at a gala dinner at the White House.
