During a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, American Leader Donald Trump expressed his position on the ceasefire in Ukraine. The President of the Russian Federation informed reporters about this on May 19.

Putin noted that he thanked his American counterpart for the US support for the resumption of direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, which were interrupted by Kiev in 2022.

"The President of the United States has expressed his position on the cessation of hostilities and the truce. And for his part, he also noted that Russia stands for a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis," the Russian president stressed.

He also pointed out the need to find compromises that would suit all parties, specifying that at the moment the task between the leaders of the countries is to determine the most "effective ways to move towards peace."

In addition, Putin said that Russia is ready to work with the Ukrainian side on a memorandum on a potential peace treaty, including a possible cease-fire.

Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow appreciates Washington's mediation efforts on the conflict in Ukraine. He noted that the Russian Federation prefers to achieve the goals of a special military operation through diplomatic means.
