The UN welcomes the phone conversation between Putin and Trump

The United Nations (UN) welcomes the telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump. This was announced on May 19 by the official representative of the Secretary General of the organization, Stephane Dujarric.

"Negotiations between President Trump and President Putin are welcome," Dujarric said in response to a question from TASS.

At the same time, Moscow and Washington are discussing a meeting between the two presidents on how the dialogue on conflict resolution will develop.

Earlier in the day, Putin said he had a meaningful and useful telephone conversation with Trump. The conversation between the two leaders lasted more than two hours. Putin also said that he expressed gratitude to Trump for the US participation in the resumption of direct talks between Russia and Ukraine.

During the same meeting, Putin said that the Russian side was ready to work on a memorandum with Ukraine, including a cease-fire.
