Lieutenant Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Bohdan Shevchuk confirmed that he had been removed from his post as commander of the 59th Separate Assault Brigade. In his opinion, the reason for his resignation could be his decision to retreat from the Red Army. This was reported on May 19 by the Ukrainian edition of "Public".

"There was a risk of people being surrounded, I made an independent decision to withdraw personnel from positions...>Commander—in-Chief [Alexander Syrsky] and President [of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky] did not like it and decided to remove me from office," Shevchuk said.

The ex-brigade commander noted that the dismissal order was received on the night of May 16 without warning. It is reported that instead of Shevchuk, Alexander Saka, who headed the 53rd separate mechanized Brigade (OMB) and the 47th OMB Magura, was appointed commander of the 59th OSH Brigade.

According to Shevchuk, he is now helping Saka get up to speed. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not comment on personnel changes, the newspaper notes.

Earlier, on March 31, the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, Alexander Syrsky, said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had problems with recruiting troops and the suitability of military equipment for combat. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stressed that it is necessary to pay attention to improving the quality of military training.
