People most often face a midlife crisis from 35 to 45 years old. They may begin to think about their purpose, ask questions about the meaning of life, values and the future. On May 20, Angelika Yeremenko, a psychologist at the Axon clinic and a doctor of the highest category, told Izvestia about how to cope with this period.

"There comes a period of reassessment of meanings and life achievements, and it proceeds very individually for everyone. During this period, it is necessary to ask yourself the questions: "Why did I come to this world?", "What can I give to this world?". Those who don't ask such questions are stuck in a state of crisis, unable to cope with the mental emptiness," said the psychologist.

The expert recommended taking this period as an opportunity to change your life for the better. A crisis can lead to changes in all areas of life, but sometimes the help of a psychologist is needed to develop an individual strategy for dealing with a crisis, Eremenko stressed.

"Setting new goals and communicating will help you cope with the midlife crisis. Use this period to set new life goals. These can be both professional and personal achievements. Also, don't be afraid to share your feelings with your loved ones or friends. The support of others can significantly ease the emotional state," the specialist recommended.

New hobbies can also have a positive impact in dealing with the midlife crisis. According to the psychologist, this will help to distract from negative thoughts and bring fresh emotions into life.

She also advised taking special care of yourself during this period: pay attention to physical and psychological health, give your body regular exercise, eat right and get enough sleep, and consider contacting a professional.

"Contacting a psychologist or psychotherapist can help you sort out your feelings and find ways to solve problems. Also, accepting the changes will make it easier to perceive what is happening," concluded Yeremenko.

On May 17, Yeremenko told Izvestia about ways to deal with stress. According to her, breathing exercises can help. It is necessary to inhale, hold your breath for four counts, and then exhale. Repeat this exercise at least 10 times. For the second method, you will need to turn on pleasant music and start moving to the melody. In this way, all body clamps are removed, attention is switched to the proper functioning of all organs, stress is relieved, the doctor said.
