Russia wants to eliminate the root causes of the Ukrainian conflict and conclude a lasting peace without possible loopholes in the agreement, so it is useless to put pressure on Russia with sanctions. This opinion was expressed by State Duma deputy Alexei Chepa on Monday, May 19, commenting on information about possible support by US President Donald Trump for a bill on anti-Russian sanctions if there is no progress in peace talks.

"I want to say that it is useless to put pressure and blackmail Russia today. Russia defends the interests of peace, and first of all, the most important thing for us is that the reasons that led to this should not be repeated," the parliamentarian said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

The politician also stressed the importance of the fact that there should be no loopholes in the signed agreement for any provocations and continuation of the conflict.

According to Chepa, Trump is putting pressure on Ukraine and trying to influence Russia so that some kind of agreement can be concluded as soon as possible. At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that the results of the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are already there, for example, the upcoming prisoner exchange in the "1000 by 1000" format.

"We understand that this is bad, we understand that they [sanctions] do not improve our lives, do not improve our economic situation, but there is no need to scare us with sanctions," the deputy concluded.

Earlier in the day, Bloomberg reported that Trump may support a bill on sanctions against Russia, which was previously proposed by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham (listed as a terrorist and extremist in Russia).

According to the newspaper, among the proposed sanctions, duties of 500% may be imposed on imports from countries that continue to purchase gas, oil and uranium from Russia. Life.Ru .

Earlier, on March 9, Graham announced that he would submit to Congress a bill on the introduction of new sanctions against Russia. 360.ru . According to the politician, the restrictions will affect the banking and energy sectors. The sanctions imply a 500% tariff on imports from countries that buy Russian oil, petroleum products, natural gas or uranium.

On May 1, Bloomberg reported that 72 out of 100 members of the US Senate supported a bill proposing to impose duties at a rate of 500% on goods from countries that buy Russian hydrocarbons, fuel and uranium. In addition, the draft prohibits operations with the sovereign debt of the Russian Federation (purchase of federal loan bonds).

At the same time, Valery Andrianov, an associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia that a bill developed in the United States on duties of 500% for countries that will buy oil from Russia is populist and does not take into account the realities of the global oil market. According to him, the figures of 500% only look beautiful, but in fact they are absolutely meaningless.
