Modern orthodontic technologies allow you to correct the bite without resorting to the installation of braces. Victoria Radko, head of the orthodontic department of the EUROKAPPA Clinic Scientific and Clinical Center, told Izvestia about this on May 20.

According to the specialist, today patients are increasingly looking for an alternative to braces - not only for aesthetic reasons, but also because of discomfort, hygiene problems and dietary restrictions.

"The choice of bite correction method should be based not only on the wishes of the patient, but also on the clinical picture — age, degree and type of injury, the condition of teeth and gums play a key role," Radko explained.

The most popular and modern alternative to braces today are aligners— removable mouthguards made individually for each patient using digital modeling. They fit snugly to the teeth, apply pressure at the right points and gradually move the teeth to the correct position.

"Aligners are almost invisible when worn, do not cause injury to the mucous membrane and can be easily removed while eating or brushing teeth, which makes care much easier," said the orthodontist.

In addition, removable plates and trainers are actively used for children and teenagers. These devices affect the growing jaw and allow you to adjust the bite during the active formation of the maxillary system. However, as Radko emphasizes, the effectiveness of these methods in adults is limited.

"It is important to understand that malocclusion is not only a cosmetic problem. It can lead to diction disorders, difficulty chewing food, and jaw pain. That is why it is so important not to postpone the visit to the orthodontist and choose the optimal treatment strategy," the specialist explained.

Aligners are also suitable for patients with hypersensitivity of the enamel or periodontal diseases, as they provide a gentle and delicate effect. Unlike braces, aligners do not damage the surface of the teeth and allow you to control the pressure on each individual element.

According to the doctor, in some cases — with pronounced crowding of teeth, malocclusion or pathology of the temporomandibular joint - braces remain the most effective. However, even in such situations, a combined approach is possible, when part of the treatment takes place on braces, and the final stage is with the help of mouthguards.

Radko also stressed that the final result of treatment largely depends on the patient himself.

"Even the most advanced technologies will not give the expected effect without observing the wearing regime and regular visits to the orthodontist. Successful treatment is always a collaboration between the doctor and the patient, where discipline plays a key role," she concluded.

Earlier, on May 5, Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, speaker of REVIXAN Olga Chepurkova told Izvestia about mistakes in dental care. Only three tools provide real hygiene: a regular toothbrush, a monopuckle brush and interdental brushes, she stressed. The average time required for proper hygiene is from 15 to 30 minutes per day. Most people limit themselves to two minutes, she added.
