The United States believes that the Ukrainian peace process is reaching an impasse, so American leader Donald Trump is going to talk with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. This was announced on May 19 by Vice President of the United States Jay Dee Vance.

"It seems to us that we are reaching an impasse, so the president (Trump. — Ed.) will talk to him (Putin. — Ed.) by phone," Vance told reporters, quoted by Reuters.

According to him, there are many different obstacles in resolving the conflict, so it is difficult to single out the main one.

"There are so many different things that are obstacles that it is difficult to single out one specific thing," he told reporters when asked what is an obstacle to resolving the conflict.

Trump expressed his intention to hold a telephone conversation with Putin on May 17. He clarified that the talks will take place on May 19 at 10:00 a.m. US time (17:00 Moscow time). According to him, the main topics will be the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict and trade. The US president noted that after that he plans to call Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, as well as representatives of various NATO countries.

After the announcement of the telephone conversation between the American and Russian leaders, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Izvestia that the conversation between Putin and Trump was in the process of preparation.
