Five weeks later, "Kraken," about a meeting between sailors and a giant underwater monster, regained the top spot in the box office. According to the EAIS, the film earned about 54 million rubles over the weekend, approaching a billion in total fees. The second place went to the military drama "Not on the list" with Vladimir Mashkov. And the best novelty of the weekend was the romantic comedy "There" with Irina Starshenbaum and Peter Fedorov, however, the fees for the film's debut weekend, like for all other rental participants, turned out to be low. Cinema attendance dropped significantly after the holidays. Izvestia — the results of the Russian rental last weekend.

"Kraken" regained the lead at the box office

Cinema attendance doubled last weekend, from 1.6 million viewers a week earlier to 0.8 million. This is the lowest figure since September last year. The dynamics was also reflected in the box office, which decreased several times. A week earlier, the war drama with Vladimir Mashkov and Vladislav Miller "Not on the list" earned 183 million rubles, but this time — 49 million. At the same time, the film dropped to second place, and a month later "Kraken" with Alexander Petrov unexpectedly regained the lead at the box office. Although in this case, the fees turned out to be low — about 54 million rubles compared to 130 million last weekend.

— After the holidays, this is a traditional recession, everything is within expectations. Plus, the lack of new major releases also affected. Therefore, for example, suddenly "Kraken" returned to the first place of the top. A major release — a blockbuster or a fabulous project - can excite the rental. The adventure fantasy "Nightingale vs Muromets" with Nikita Efremov as the antagonist, which will appear on screens next weekend, has such potential," Olga Zinyakova, president of the KARO cinema chain, explained in an interview with Izvestia.

The romantic comedy "There", which became the best novelty of the weekend, started from the third line of the box office. For the first time, a film about a 1,500 km journey by an introverted taxi driver and an adventurous passenger was shown as part of the Russian Premieres competition at the 47th Moscow International Film Festival, and now it has reached wide distribution. The film earned about 23 million rubles in its debut weekend, but it still has potential, Olga Zinyakova believes.

— The romantic road movie "There" with Irina Starshenbaum and Peter Fedorov could have claimed a big box office, but the general drop in attendance did not play in favor of the film. Next weekend, the project will have no competition within the genre, so there is every chance to complete the checkout on the sundress. If you look even further, the only competition for the project over the weekend is the French romcom Jane Austen Ruined My Life, but the film with Russian stars has greater potential at the local box office," Olga Zinyakova noted.

With less success, another domestic novelty debuted — the comedy "The Deer" about the re-education of a ladies' man. According to the plot, after a random night with another girl, a young guy grows real horns — this is how her witch grandmother decides to teach him a lesson. At the weekend, the film brought only 14 million rubles to the box office, taking the sixth place of the top. Above that are the "Blood group" (22 million) and the main "old man" of the box office, "Father 2. Grandfather", who has been confidently on the list of the first for a month and a half.

Foreign novelties gave way to Russian films

Completing the top 10 are two new horror films - "Essence. Family Nightmare" (12 million) and "Crimson Shoal" (10 million). Several more foreign films were released on wide screens last weekend — the drama "Faithful Friend" starring Bill Murray and Naomi Watts and the thriller "The Mysterious Murder of Belle" starring Charlotte Gainsbourg and Guillaume Canet, but a strong cast did not help them break into the chart. The new Marvel hit "Thunderbolts*", which is shown in Russian cinemas on pre-screening service along with short films, did not work either.

— Chamber dramas are not something that generates a big box office. Even stars like Naomi Watts, Bill Murray, Guillaume Canet, and Charlotte Gainsbourg can't entice viewers to go to the cinema if the movie doesn't have a wide enough promo. The pirate "Thunderbolts*" have no promo at all, this is a new Marvel product that cannot attract due to one name, the result is appropriate," said Olga Zinyakova.

Among the domestic family releases of the upcoming weekend, in addition to the fantasy "Nightingale vs Muromets", is the cartoon "Hansel and Gretel: The Sleeping Beauty Mission" about the adventures of a family team of super agents. In addition, the "Zone of Interests", which won the Grand Prix of the Cannes Film Festival in 2023 and two Oscars in 2024, will be released domestically. The film focuses on the family of the commandant of Auschwitz, who lives in a spacious house with a swimming pool and lawns a few meters from the concentration camp.
