Lithuania has filed a lawsuit against Belarus in the UN court

Lithuania has filed a lawsuit against Belarus in the United Nations (UN) court in The Hague for allegedly organizing the illegal importation of migrants. This was announced on May 19 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Republic.
Lithuania has faced an increase in the number of illegal migrants since 2021. The Lithuanian side claims that the Belarusian authorities are allegedly involved in this.
"Lithuania appeals to the International Court of Justice with a request to hold Belarus accountable in accordance with international law for violations of the protocol," the material on the website says.
The Lithuanian government also demands full compensation for the damage caused, including the cost of building the border, and guarantees that "illegal actions" on the part of Belarus will not be repeated.
On March 18, Politico, citing human rights organizations Oxfam and Egala, reported that the Polish border guard service was resorting to excessive use of force against migrants on the border with Belarus. According to them, Polish border guards beat asylum seekers, shoot at them with rubber bullets, strip them naked and unleash dogs on them. There are also cases of denial of medical care to pregnant women.
