Used car sales in Russia increased by 14% in a month

In April 2025, Russians purchased 509.7 thousand used passenger cars. This is 13.7% more than in March 2025, and almost repeats the result of April last year (509.5 thousand units). This is stated in the message of the analytical agency Autostat, which was received by Izvestia on May 19.

Lada continues to lead in the brand rating. In the second month of spring, 135.3 thousand used cars of the domestic brand were purchased. Toyota retains the second place, with an indicator of 49.6 thousand units. Kia (27.9 thousand units), Hyundai (27.2 thousand units) and Nissan (21.8 thousand units) rounded out the top five. Volkswagen, Chevrolet, Renault, Honda and Ford rounded out the top ten. These brands are listed in the same order in the sales ranking for the first four months of 2025.

Only Lada, out of the top ten leaders, showed year-on-year growth in the secondary market, with sales growing by 6.2%. The largest decrease was noted at Nissan (-9.3%). Compared to the level of a month ago, all brands showed an increase of at least 10%. The indicator grew the most at Honda (+20%).

In total, from January to April, Russians became owners of almost 1.78 million used passenger cars. This is 2.3% more than in January – April last year.

On May 16, it was reported that in a number of Russian regions, the average prices of popular five-year-old used cars are noticeably lower than in others. So, the average price of a five-year-old Lada Vesta in Russia is 1.06 million rubles. At the same time, for example, in the Novosibirsk region, a car can be purchased for an average of 949 thousand rubles (-10.5%).

On May 15, it became known that the average price of a new Russian car in April 2025 reached 1.48 million rubles, which is 54.8% more than in February 2022. The average price for a used Russian car no older than 20 years in April 2025 was 0.6 million rubles, which is 26.1% more than in February 2022.
