More than 65% of the population was evacuated from 202 settlements of Sumy region in Ukraine, located near the border of Russia. This was announced on May 19 by the head of the regional military administration Oleg Grigorov.

"Almost 65% of the population has been evacuated, which is about 56,000 people. 804 children who were subject to mandatory evacuation have been evacuated," the Ukrainian edition of the Public quoted Grigorov as saying.

He added that the total number of residents in the region is unknown.

On March 14, the Sumy regional administration announced the evacuation of residents from a number of settlements in the Sumy region of Ukraine. It is specified that the measure is being introduced in settlements in the Yunakovskaya and Miropolskaya territorial communities of the district. A total of 543 people, including children, are planned to be taken out.
