The Prosecutor's Office of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has sent to the regional Supreme Court a criminal case against three militants of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported on May 19 in the press service of the department.

It was established that in March 2022, the militants were on the territory of the Azovstal metallurgical plant and gave orders to subordinates to shell the village of Stary Krym in Mariupol. As a result, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked residential buildings of civilians using the Grad multiple rocket launcher system. More than 11 houses were damaged, and property damage totaled over 1.4 million rubles.

The indictment was approved against Maxim Nichiporuk, 26, deputy commander of the rocket artillery battery for armament, as well as the commanders of the brigade's fire platoon, 29-year-old Vladislav Veselovsky and 28-year-old Maxim Chileev.

"They are charged under Part 3 of Article 30, paragraphs "a", "e", "g", "l" of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Attempted murder of two or more persons committed in a generally dangerous manner by an organized group motivated by political, ideological hatred"), Part 2 of art. 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Intentional damage to someone else's property, resulting in significant damage, committed in a generally dangerous manner"), Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code ("Ill-treatment of civilians in the occupied territory, the use of methods prohibited by an international treaty of the Russian Federation in an armed conflict")," the publication says on the website.

On April 15, the Supreme Court of the DPR sentenced Oleg Zavaletsky, commander of a separate engineering and sapper platoon of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Marine battalion, to 24.5 years in prison in a high-security penal colony. He was found guilty under paragraphs "g" and "l" of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code ("Murder committed by an organized group motivated by political and ideological hatred"), Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code ("Ill-treatment of civilians in the occupied territory").
