Russia has named a leader in online sales of consumer goods


X5 Group retained the first place in terms of online sales of consumer goods in the first quarter of 2025. This follows from the report of the Infoline information and consulting agency.
According to the company, the turnover of X5 Digital's business, responsible for digital sales and delivery, amounted to 78.2 billion rubles in the first quarter of 2025 (an increase of 55.6% compared to the same period last year). During this period, users placed more than 44 million orders. On the peak day of February, the number of orders exceeded 598 thousand.
Earlier, following the results of the 4th quarter of 2024, X5 also became the leader in the FMCG online sales market. Then the turnover amounted to 67.6 billion rubles, and the total number of orders for 2024 exceeded 119.5 million.
"We have managed to build an economic model that allows us to scale the business, show high efficiency and invest in the development of delivery technologies. This applies to both the customer platform and the automation projects of our operational activities. Our goal is sustainable business growth with an emphasis on an efficient economic model, the development of delivery services and the improvement of customer experience," said Sergey Pankov, Managing Director of X5 Digital.
By the end of the first quarter of 2025, food and consumer goods were delivered from more than 9,5 thousand X5 stores, as well as from more than 40 darkstores in 73 regions of Russia.
According to a study by Infoline, the online food sales market in Russia in the 1st quarter of 2025 increased by 26.8% compared to the same period last year to 388 billion rubles. The share of online product sales in retail turnover increased by 0.5 percentage points to 5.6% and reached a "historic high," analysts also noted.
