- The Moldovan politician called for the return of the southern part of the Odessa region to the republic

On May 18, the chairman of the Moldova Mare party, Victoria Furtune, called for the return of the southern part of the Odessa region, Budjak, to the republic on the basis of "the absence of a ratified treaty and for the restoration of the territorial integrity of the country."
According to Furtuna, the return of Budjak will allow Moldova to regain access to the Black Sea.
"There is not a single international treaty ratified by Moldova that would recognize the loss of Budjak. We are crippled by the boundaries drawn under the ruler. We were deprived of access to the sea through Budjak. I know how to get the Bujack back today, and it's more relevant than ever," Furtune said on her Telegram channel.
She also stated that Moldova needs to regain all the lost values: "identity, past, language and the seaside."
Budzhak is a historical and geographical region located in the southern part of the modern Odessa region between the Danube and the Dniester. Historically, this territory was transferred between different states, but today it is the territory of Ukraine.
In October 2023, Romanian Senator Diana Shoshoake called on Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky to return Romania to its historical territories. She also demanded to start respecting the Romanian minority in Ukraine.
