It is impossible to create a new universal international organization, similar to the United Nations and having similar functions and character. This was announced on May 19 by Kirill Logvinov, Director of the Department of International Organizations at the Russian Foreign Ministry.

He clarified that this cannot be implemented due to the lack of a broad consensus, which became the basis of the UN Charter and was achieved as a result of the Second World War.

"Proponents of the "crash theory" argue that the world Organization (United Nations, UN. — Ed.) is supposedly the legacy of Yalta (Yalta Conference — Ed.), therefore it is outdated, unable to effectively respond to current challenges and threats, therefore something else should replace it," said the head of the Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum, quoted by TASS.

He also added that although no one is seeking to destroy the UN, some forces may be trying to undermine its stability. The director of the department explained that such forces could start blackmailing those who are interested in preserving the organization.

On May 2, American leader Donald Trump proposed suspending most U.S. contributions to the World Health Organization (WHO), UNESCO and other UN structures, including all voluntary transfers, in the draft federal budget for 2026. In total, it is planned to reduce expenditures on the relevant budget line by more than $1.7 billion compared to 2025.
