- The media reported on Trump's possible support for the imposition of sanctions against Russia

US President Donald Trump may support a bill on sanctions against Russia, which was previously proposed by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham (listed in Russia as a terrorist and extremist). This was reported by Bloomberg on May 19, citing European officials.
"American officials have privately informed their European counterparts that Trump is considering approving a bill on sanctions...> if Russia does not make concessions (on Ukraine. — Ed.)," the article says.
According to the newspaper, among the proposed sanctions, duties of 500% may be imposed on imports from countries that continue to purchase oil, gas and uranium from Russia.
Earlier, on March 9, Graham announced that he would submit to Congress a bill on the introduction of new sanctions against Russia. According to the politician, the restrictions will affect the banking and energy sectors. The sanctions imply a 500% tariff on imports from countries that buy Russian oil, petroleum products, natural gas or uranium.
On May 1, Bloomberg reported that 72 out of 100 members of the U.S. Senate supported a bill proposing to impose duties at a rate of 500% on goods from countries that buy Russian hydrocarbons, fuel and uranium. In addition, the draft prohibits operations with the sovereign debt of the Russian Federation (purchase of federal loan bonds).
At the same time, Valery Andrianov, an associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia that a bill developed in the United States on duties of 500% for countries that will buy oil from Russia is populist and does not take into account the realities of the global oil market. According to him, the figures of 500% only look beautiful, but in fact they are absolutely meaningless.
