France ruled out helping Ukraine at the cost of destabilizing its economy

France cannot provide assistance to Ukraine at the cost of harming its own economy. This was announced on May 19 by the Minister of Agriculture of France, Annie Genevar.
According to her, Paris cannot safely import Ukrainian products because it "destabilizes the situation too much." The minister compared the relevant case with free trade agreements, but called the Ukrainian conflict a "special case" because of France's support.
"Assistance to Ukraine cannot be provided at the cost of deeply destabilizing our own economy. We must keep our heads," Genevar said on the air of Franceinfo.
She stressed that it is necessary to find a balance in support. The minister clarified that reasonable assistance consists in support that is useful for the Ukrainian side and does not destabilize French production.
In addition, the head of the French Ministry of Agriculture noted the tightening of de facto trade agreements with Ukraine. According to her, last year Paris realized that the abolition of customs duties with Kiev would lead to the destabilization of the national industry. She noted that this led to an emergency reduction in Ukrainian imports.
The day before, The Guardian newspaper, citing Ukrainian officials, reported that active US assistance is extremely important for the Kiev regime in the context of the conflict with the Russian Federation. The source said that Kiev intends to continue to maintain military ties with the West, even if Ukraine's neutral status is approved in a peaceful settlement.
On May 6, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, responding to a question from Izvestia, said that continued military supplies to Kiev were delaying prospects for a peaceful settlement and leading to an escalation of the conflict. She also expressed the hope that this is understood in countries where they are thinking about military assistance to Ukraine.
