Employees of the Federal Customs Service (FCS) of Russia have stopped the smuggling of 1.2 tons of precursors for the production of methadone and 25 kg of pregabalin. This was announced on May 19 by the press service of the department.
"The import of 1.2 tons of precursors for the production of methadone and 25 kg of pregabalin was stopped by employees of the Volga Operational Customs in cooperation with the Main Directorate for Combating Smuggling of the Federal Customs Service of Russia. This would be enough to produce 4.3 million doses of banned substances. The cost on the black market is over 7 billion rubles," the FCS Telegram channel says.
It was established that the illegal cargo was delivered to the Nizhny Novgorod region under the guise of consumer goods, including clothing and cosmetics. The examination confirmed the presence of methadone and pregabalin. A criminal case has been opened on this fact under clause "b" of Part 4 of Article 229.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Smuggling of precursors on an especially large scale") and under Part 1.1 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Smuggling of potent substances").
On May 14, a shipment of cocaine worth 500 million rubles was detained in the port of St. Petersburg. A ship with illegal cargo from Latin America. During the customs control, the port staff found 50 briquettes of cocaine hidden in the cache of a container with bananas. A criminal case has been opened on this fact under Part 4 of Article 229.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Drug smuggling"). Life imprisonment is provided for this violation.
