The administration of the Alatyr municipal District of Chuvashia urged local residents not to eat fish from the Alatyr River because of its mass death. This was reported on May 19 in the press service of the administration.

"Due to the mass death of fish in the Alatyr River, the administration of the Alatyr Municipal District categorically does not recommend eating it," the Telegram channel said in a statement.

The causes of fish death are being established. In addition, the administration asks residents and guests to refrain from visiting the Alatyr River in the coming days.

In the Moscow region, enterprises dump waste directly into the river, and sewage treatment plants are out of order.

At the end of April, Izvestia wrote that Alatyr is heavily polluted due to the activities of large enterprises that dump waste into a reservoir.

According to local residents, every year a mass death of fish is recorded in the river. It was reported that the Kemlyansky distillery is suspected of dumping waste. Rosprirodnadzor confirmed to Izvestia that the violations that had previously been fully identified had not been eliminated so far. Also, the fact of river pollution was not denied by the Federal Forestry Agency, whose specialists found an increased amount of ammonium ion in the water last year.

In addition, the Ichalkovsky cheese factory was suspected of contamination, which had sewage treatment plants, but with low capacities that could not cope with the load.
