The Iranian parliament's Foreign Policy and National Security Committee has approved a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement with Russia. This was announced on May 19 by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, Esmail Bagai, at a weekly briefing.
"The agreement was reviewed and approved by the Committee on Foreign Policy and National Security of the Mejlis," TASS quoted him as saying.
According to Bagai, the document will be submitted to the Iranian parliament for final approval and ratification in the near future.
He called the strategic partnership between Tehran and Moscow very important and stated that he considers bilateral cooperation as one of the main priorities of the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between the two countries was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Peseshkian on January 17, which brought bilateral relations between Moscow and Tehran to a new level. The Russian leader called the document a breakthrough, and the tasks set in the new agreement between the two countries ambitious, aimed at developing cooperation.
